[2.day in Santiago searching for a new supportcar after the old one broke down 250km N. of Santiago].

We are trying the main used-car options here in Santiago but so far with no result. The optimism for the run is at a lowpoint. But if I have to Ill continue with a backpack, though it will be a very dangerous solution to put it mildly - the Atacama desert is ahead (the worlds dryest desert w. areas that hasnt had any recorded incidents of rain). Even with the experience from 1100km of running straight across the Sahara desert & the 1500km across the australian Nullabor desert there is low chances of making it through Atacama in good condition w. just a backpack.

Positive is that I in less than half an hour got a chilean civil-identity
card which is required in order to buy a car. Amazing to see a bureaucracy which is that well functioning and in an else dark moment of the run it brought a smile on my 'political scientist' part of the mind: Always enjoyable when our predetermined oppinions or expectations of other parts of the world and other cultures gets exchanged by a positive surprise when actually getting close to their life and viewpoint of the world.
Here at the busy office in central Santiago I saw an efficiency and helpfullness that I seldom experiense even in the 'public sector heavy' wellfare states in Scandinavia - what a pleasant surprise which it could be interesting to learn more of :-)
